Message from our Retiring GP, Dr Neil Hefford
Dear Patients,
After many rewarding years in general practice, I wish to let you know that I will be retiring at Christmas. This decision has not been made lightly, but it feels the right time to step back — both to focus on my family’s health issues and, yes, to make good use of my Gold Card!
It has been an enormous privilege to be part of your lives and to share in your health journeys — over 34 years here in Grey Lynn, and for some of you, even further back to my Otahuhu days in 1986. - 5 generations of people I have had the pleasure to meet and help! I am deeply grateful for the trust, kindness, and friendship you have shown me throughout that time
For those I’ll see over the next couple of months, this will be our last opportunity to meet in person, though I do hope to return occasionally for locum work to cover colleagues on leave. For others I may not get to say farewell in person, please accept my apologies and my heartfelt thanks for the many years of connection and shared experience.
I leave you in very good hands with the excellent team here at Grey Lynn Family Medical Centre, and I have full confidence in their continued commitment to your care and wellbeing.
Thank you once again for allowing me the honour of being your doctor. I wish you all good health and happiness in the years ahead.

Prescription Changes 2026
From February 2026, our practice will begin rolling out the new national prescription guidelines introduced by the Ministry of Health.
Under these updated rules, eligible patients may be able to receive up to 12 months of certain medications in a single prescription, depending on clinical suitability and safety requirements.
